Rising adoption expands supplier base

Taiwan’s small LED lamp industry is growing steadily with newcomers joining to take advantage of the line’s rising popularity as an energy-efficient alternative to conventional light sources. There are now more than 100 makers in the island, and the number is expected to continue climbing. Some are smaller designers that provide OEM and ODM services.

Adding to suppliers’ interest in the segment is the fact that applications have increased because of the robust shipment pull-in from lighting manufacturers. The sector has evolved from ambient types, including architectural, control, channel letter, landscape and retail/display lighting, to functional models. Examples of the latter are reading, recessed and streetlights, spotlights, and tubes and bulbs. The selection eventually included units for general lighting. After standardization, the industry is expected to enjoy healthy competition, which can drive less-costly mass production.

A number of suppliers are project-based and have flexibility in design, services and customization. These include Essiso Technology Co. Ltd, which was established by a group of LED experts, providing complete solutions for all kinds of LED lighting applications.

Although Essiso said diode lamps are more expensive than traditional bulbs, new kinds of architectures and decorations will need the former for better flexibility. Further, these models have also been made for the usual light fittings. The manufacturer’s LED E27/26 lamp, for instance, is fully compatible with the conventional E27/26 base, and is designed for general lighting.
