PhyMed Promotes Hatter to Lead Expansion of Pain Management Clinics

PhyMed Healthcare Group, a physician-led and owned services organization specializing in anesthesia, pain management and critical care, has named Rona Hatter regional operations manager for the companys pain management division to build on the successful track record established during her tenure as the director of PhyMeds pain management practice in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Hatter will oversee all of the companys pain management practices, including Clarksville, two in the Nashville area and one in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
In Clarksville, we provide services to the military from nearby Fort Campbell as well as local first responders, says Hatter. They trust us because we have a successful and evidence-based approach to pain management. We are going to build on that. Morgan adds that having pain management practices in multiple states gives PhyMed the unique advantage to share best practices among our fellowship trained, board certified anesthesiologists with subspecialties in pain medicine. Rona will leverage these opportunities to continue our high level of quality and customer service beyond our existing markets.
Hatter joined Anesthesia Services of Middle Tennessee, a PhyMed practice, in 2010 to manage the offices pain group. A former oncology nurse for St. Thomas Health Services, Hatter holds a CPPM certification (Certified Physician Practice Manager) and is the 2015 President for Clarksville area of the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association).
PhyMeds Increased Focus on Pain Management
Hatters promotion comes at a time when the pain management industry, though growing, is often perceived negatively as a pill mill operation. Many pain clinics made it too easy to obtain powerful narcotics inappropriately or for non-medical use. PhyMed pushes back on the pill mill label on a number of fronts:
Physicians are board certified anesthesiologists with an extended one year fellowship for pain management
PhyMed physicians perform interventional pain medicine procedures such as nerve blocks, injections and radiofrequency ablation, with the goal of decreasing pain levels as well as the use of pain medications
When applicable, the company regularly refers patients to non-drug therapies, including physical and psychological therapy as needed
The company takes only referrals, requires three months worth of medical records and supportive documentation such as imaging records
The patient is not accepted if he or she was ever discharged from another clinic
The goal is to create a replicable pain management practice platform that can be exported to every new acquisition.
