Mobile PC Built-in DisplayPort

To the display interface specifications for mobile PC, the traditional VGA and LVDS (low voltage differential signal) is expected to gradually withdraw from the market in the future two to four years, the instead item is fast growing HDMI and DisplayPort. At the same time designed for mobile device the new specifications of eDP (embedded DisplayPort security), is also rapidly becoming the main internal interface specifications of mobile PC, including laptop computers, the tablet computer, and nettop. So the latest release report of DisplayPort, the In-Stat forecast in 2014 above 80% of mobile PC will carry eDP interface.

Many notebook computer brands such as Samsung have launched carrying eDP interface of products since last year, and Apple also carrried external connection type DisplayPort interface in all series laptop. Because the Edp technology has not yet been fully become popular, so compared with LVDS, its cost is relatively high. However, with adaption rate and permeability increasing, its cost benefits will be obvious. In addition, at present from the tablet computer to laptops there is a very significant trend- the resolution of the panel is increasing constantly, even to 300 PPI level. This means that the current LVDS cannot meet with the requirement of  signal transmission and the frequency brought by the high resolution, and eDP is a digital interface, which can achieve a simple connectors and pick up at a few feet for high resolution, even can be achieved two-way transmission in 1600 vertical resolution. It is an important advantage for eDP to instead LVDS.
