At Career Fair, Over 30 Local Employers Are Eager to Meet Job Seekers, and Many More Will Hire Onsite
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 03, 2014
Responding to blistering Bay Area growth and labor shortages, Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin Counties (SFGoodwill) and Mission Economic Development Center (MEDA) invite job seekers to attend one of the largest career fairs in San Francisco. More than 30 local employers including FedEx, Sears, UC San Francisco, Target, Lowes, SunRun, and the City and County of SF, will be on hand to meet, interview, and hire people ready to work, many of whom line up in advance for the chance.
Job seekers will receive computer access with online application assistance, interview preparation services, and introductions to employers ready to hire. More than 300 applicants are expected, and the event is open to the public.
During the career fair, Wells Fargo will present a $ 100,000 grant to SFGoodwill to fund a Hiring Hub initiative, with the goal of accelerating job placements for local residents suffering from chronic unemployment and building stronger partnerships with employers seeking a workforce.

Why:
The biggest gap on the pathway to employment in our community today is that last step: job placement. Thats where Goodwill can provide the most help. said SFGoodwill President and CEO, Maureen Sedonaen. In the past 12 months, more than 600 local people in need got jobs through our Goodwill chapter. With this investment from our longtime partner Wells Fargo, we seek to increase that number in the year ahead.
Every time an out-of-work person gets and keeps a job, a positive ripple effect is created in their neighborhoods, said Victor Aranda, SVP and president of the San Francisco market for Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is proud to provide a $ 100,000 grant to SFGoodwill, so they can continue to help people from hard-hit neighborhoods find jobs and strengthen our economy and our community.
The Hiring Hub will leverage proven SFGoodwill workforce development strategies that provide an accelerated pathway to job placement for people who are ready to work. Some job seekers may be placed within businesses operated by SFGoodwill, while others will be connected to jobs with local employers who regularly seek pre-screened, job-ready candidates from SFGoodwill to fill their open positions.
The social enterprise, which will celebrate its 100th year of service in San Francisco in 2016, focuses on helping people on the margins restart their lives through the power of work and low-wage workers reach for new opportunities. Through SFGoodwill, many chronically unemployed people are able to stop receiving public assistance and earn a paycheck to reach self-sufficiency. SFGoodwill is proud to be the employer of record that has placed those with the highest barriers to employment in the City of San Francisco in 2014.
