Releases match compact electronics

Traditional types such as glass-tube units remain viable but miniaturized and surface-mount versions are gathering steam.

Reflecting the trend for smaller and lightweight electronics, fuse makers in Taiwan are developing thinner and compact models, with miniature and microfuses breaching the mainstream. Surface-mount versions are gaining traction as well, thanks to the widening adoption of automated production.

Traditional units such as glass-tube configurations, meanwhile, remain in strong supply to meet demand from various home electronics.

With foreign brands dominating the high end and mainland China at the entry level, Taiwan manufacturers are positioning themselves at the midrange. As a result, a growing number are catering to niche lines with SMD and resettable fuses.

The island’s mature industry provides nearly all types, including chip, sub- and miniature, resettable and ceramic fuses. Most enterprises likewise offer fuse blocks, holders, bases or clips to deliver a complete package.
