Frank Arostegui to Serve as Leadership Host of American Cancer Society Gala

The gala event will welcome an estimated 400 guests to the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center in Lombard, Illinois, where they will enjoy live and silent auctions, live music and an elegant dinner, with proceeds going to support cancer-fighting programs here and across the country.

Since its inception 5 years ago, the ACS Black & White Ball has raised more than $ 2.2 million for the cancer fight. The event’s popularity has grown with support from business, philanthropic and community leaders throughout the west suburban region, says Clare Thibodeaux, a 6-year ACS volunteer and chair of the ACS Regional Leadership Board for the DuPage County (Illinois) area.

Arostegui, who also serves on the DuPage leadership board, is a survivor of squamous cell carcinoma, a dangerous form of skin cancer. Following surgery and radiation treatment, says he reached a point where he realized that working to stay healthy as a survivor wasn’t enough.

“I felt I owed something more to the millions of people who are fighting cancer right now and the millions more who may face it in the future,” he says.

In 2014 Arostegui teamed with ALitho staff members and their families to field the company’s first Relay For Life team, raising $ 3,500 to benefit ACS.

“This year we’re launching a year-long campaign to raise funds and help our employees and their loved ones learn how to reduce their own risks for cancer,” he says.

The company will form a 2015 Relay team, walking at Relay For Life of Carol Stream, Illinois on Saturday, June 27. The event runs from noon to midnight at the Ross Ferraro Town Center, Gary Avenue & Lies Road, Carol Stream.

ALitho President Mike Fontana is excited about the companys cancer-fighting campaign and has expressed full support. He describes Arostegui as “a remarkable person … someone whose commitment goes so deep that it inspires everyone around him.”

Arostegui recently shared the story of his cancer diagnosis and treatment in the company’s blog, Brand Energy. He says he looks forward to meeting hundreds of others at the upcoming gala who share his sense of urgency in fighting the disease that is expected to claim more than 590,000 lives this year in the U.S. alone.
